Getting ready for that playtest! Dev log 1


Hi there!

So a week has passed since I announced Vector Light here on itch, and I want to stick to a weekly dev post showing my progress through development each week. This will most likely be during the weekends. In these posts I will talk about what I've been doing that week, specifically towards the game off course.

Working on those mechanics

So the main mechanics are displayed on the front page of the game, some of which, weren't ready for use yet. I've been spending some time this week, getting some of those unfinished mechanics to work. These were the last mechanics still needed for the playtest.


Some Other Features

I've also worked on some features that'll come in handy on a later date in development, which will allow you guys to make your own levels and packs. This had a low priority but hey, at least I don't have to worry about that anymore!

Effects And Shaders

I've also worked on some visual effects, each actor in the game has it's own shader. The normal lights and dead lights you've already seen the effect. But the new color prism, an actor that changes your color allowing you to travel to other lights, needed a cool effect. When I thought of an actual prism, I thought of a gem, that reflected light in a cool way. Which is what I created, a gem, using a special shader technique to create cool reflections on screen.

Sound And Audio

The game has been pretty silent till now, menu received some new sound effects, that also play in a random pitch so they don't feel repetitive. Also a few in-game sounds have been added for certain events like traveling to a light, or even dying which has this cool retro explosion kinda feel. All of these sounds use a random pitch when played.

Playtest

I am almost ready for a playtest, what I'm still missing is a few levels to show all the mechanics I am planning for the game. I want to get as much in the playtest version as possible, so you guys can give me as much feedback as possible. Off course there will be several playtests towards release, but I just want to make sure the first version can be the best it can be. Stand by for more information about when the playtest will go live!

Next Week

For next week, I will create the levels I was still planning on making for the playtest. The effect for the reclector can wait. Also, I am going on vacation for a weel next saturday, so I wont be able to do much during that week.
