More Progress!
Yo Ho!
So I thought since I did not post a dev log 2 weeks ago, I'd make one extra today as the past few days did see alot more progress than the past 2 weeks. Version 0.2 is getting closer and closer!
Hints
For harder levels, players sometimes get stuck and are unsure what their next move should be. For this, a handy hint system was added, allowing the player to request a hint via a button in the bottom right corner of the screen. Depending on what level it is, you will be limitted to 0-3 hints max. Levels that don't allow you any hints, have this button hidden. The hint also only displays for 5 seconds.
More Levels!
As I have said before, making levels is quite hard, and takes a really long time. So far I've been able to get 35 levels ready, with the first pack completely finished, and the second pack containing 15/20 levels. Version 0.2 will consist of 60 levels in 3 different packs, as I'm affraid I'll simply be unable to get those 100 levels ready for version 0.2. You can expect the other 40 levels in version 1.0, the games full release later in August.
New UI Elements In Game
Previously the only way to get back to the menu, was to end the level or, pretty much kill yourself by flying into the void. This can be annoying as finishing a level incorrectly can take quite long as it slowly calculates your score based on how many mistakes you made (so the longer it takes to calculate your score, the lower your score will be basically). However, now you can easily return to the main menu, by pressing a new button at the bottom left of the screen.
Level Packs Explained
So as I have said many times before, the final version will include 5 level packs, each with 20 levels making that a total of 100 levels. However I have never explained each pack in detail which I will do now.
In this screenshot you can see 6 buttons, each representing a level pack and the 6th one will be where you can acces packs made by the community that you have installed.
Basic Traveling is where your journey begins, it explains the basic concepts of the game. This pack is always unlocked by default.
In Advanced Traveling you will be introduced to the shoot mechanic, where you can shoot yourself towards lights and other new special actors. You will be introduced to the Reflector and Color Prism. This pack unlocks when you collect your first 40 stars!
Dangerous World will spice things up with the introduction of the Black Hole, and also the Worm Hole. Unlocks at 100 stars.
Gotta Be Fast will force you to think fast, as it introduces you to the Dying Light, a light that slowly drains itself when you are resting on it, taking you with it into the void if you stay too long, and the range at which you can travel from it, will decrease exponentially. This pack unlocks when you collect 160 stars.
Last but not least, there is The Finals which combines everything you've learned from the previous level packs, and makes for the ultimate challenge, awarding you with an achievement and special customisation when you complete it for a full 100%, that is collecting all 60 stars!
What's Next?
As I have mentioned in "More Levels" the goal for version 0.2 is 60 levels. Since I am only at 35, which is a bit over half what is needed for this version. I still have some work to do. But hopefully these are ready by saturday/sunday, and you all can try out version 0.2!
Thanks for reading this dev log post! And hope to see you again this weekend! Have a nice day!
