Februari hotfix! DLC?

Why hello there! Long time no seen ey?

Hello again! It has been a while hasn't it now? Well since my exams are over, I am back and ready to get back into this project! Today, we'll talk about the upcomming update for Vector Light, and my plans to release DLC.

A change to how score works

First off, I'd like to mention the huge game breaking bug that caused scoring to not calculate correctly, rewarding you 3 stars where you should have only gotten 1 or 2. This bug simply slipped through my hands as I was doing some testing for last patch. This bug should now be fixed but that's not all! Now you will also lose 100 points for every ignored light, this will make the star earnings harder but also makes more sense.

Also worth mentioning is that the end screen of each level also looks different now. In red, it will tell you how much points you've lost for each category. This will be a green 0 if you didn't lose any points on that specific category. You also get to see what the maximum score is for that specific level, so that you know how close you were to that 3 star victory.

Polish to visuals

I set down and went through the game a bit, and noticed that I made the green circle just appear instantly. This kinda triggered me and felt so unprofessional and unpolished. It also isn't really helpfull, as it doesn't really represent how much the light has left. I changed this to a circular bar around the light, that represents how much the light has been drained. If this circle is full, then that light is done. You can also notice that the light will display a number of +'s representing how many connections that sepecific light should have, oh and no more decimals :)

I also noticed that at the end of the level, lights that were incorrect also turned green. This was unintended, and was simply caused by how scores are being processed at the end of each level. These lights will now fade in a red circle to indicate they were unfinished.

Online Services

You might have noticed that the game doesn't detect wether there is an update or not, which can cause people to not know about a new update. With the next update, I'm adding the Online Services into the game, a feature that allows me to notify everyone about a new update, through the game itself. This service will also be used for an upcomming DLC, which will allow online leaderboards to be a thing ;) Due to the fact that an older version could potentially break this leaderboard, updating will become mandatory as the game will disable any online features untill you download the update. Unfortunately I can't supprt automatic updates, as this costs alot of bandthwidth and a powerfull server where you download the files from. Something I can't afford.

For now, you will see a red text at the top right saying "Could not connect to online services!" as the service won't be live yet untill the first DLC gets released.

Discord Integration

Some of you might have noticed this in Discord, but Discord will now let everyone know you aare playing the amazing epic Vector Light ;P and also mention what you are doing in Vector Light.

DLC

The first DLC to be released is called the Endless Void DLC. This brings a new mode to the game that introduces a single, but endless puzzle to the game. This is where the new online leaderboard will kick in, as your high scores will be stored online. The further you go into the void, the harder the game becomes. More info about this DLC will follow in the comming weeks.

Other Changes

  1. Fixed a bug that caused the game to crash when right clicking in some situations (thank you Vorb!)
  2. The Main Menu will now show up faster
  3. When you get stuck on a level for too long, the game will tell you you can use hints
  4. Fixed a bug that caused your progress to not be saved when you either crashed or closed the game while in a level
  5. Fixed wormholes that somehow broke lol
  6. Unstable lights now update your color as that was intended
  7. Fixed range values on all levels

The update will hit somewhere in the comming days, this week. I do not have a release date for the DLC though.
